Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer.
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on.The following report is for
the week ending Sunday, 20th October 2013.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery closes on the 31st October and weather
permitting will re-open on the 1st March 2914.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) After a very long dry summer the rain
has finally arrived at Forbes of Kingennie and the fishing has changed completely
with the dirty water. The water level at the Boathouse has now reached full
height but the colourist already starting to improve. This has resulted in the
fishing becoming quite hard with the fish struggling to see the flies. Mr Cook
persevered on Sunday and managed his two fish for 9lbs 6oz with both falling to
a Black and Bronze Polar Bear fished on a floating line. The biggest fish of the
week fell to Mr. Brown with a 9lbs 2oz rainbow caught on a Bloodworm before
the rain arrived The fishing on the Burnside has changed again with a lot of the
fish sitting much higher in the water. Even in the dirty water Nymphs have been
the most consistent method. Mr Barlow had 5 fish in a couple of hours fishing
the Diawl Bach on a floating line. Black lures and Leggy Bloodworms have taken
most of the fish for those that have been pulling lures. Young Liam Murray did
well on Friday evening taking 5 fish on lures after struggling on the Boathouse.
The Woodside has continued to fish well with worms and powerbait fished
around 3 to 4 feet deep under a float being the most consistent method. Most of
the fish have been sat around the pipes taking advantage of the fresh water but
this has made the fishing quite easy for some, with several anglers managing
there limit in a very short time. Mr Lawson took his four fish for 7lbs 2oz in around
45 minutes. After a couple of weeks with the water level on the Bankside rising
slowly, this rain has filled the final 4 feet in just a day. The opening date has now
been confirmed to be this weekend (26.10.13) - the pond has been restocked and
the fish have settled in nicely.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a fairly quiet week for angler numbers but
despite this some fine big specimens went into the record book with Tommy

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The heavy rain at the end of the week coloured the
water but this seemed to improve the fishing rather than making it more difficult.
The weekend saw the best returns for some time and those who were prepared
to stand out in the wet were well rewarded with fish. Most of the fish being
caught at present are beautiful hard-fighting Blues in the 2lb to 4lb range. Some
Tigers are still being taken with one lucky angler having three in his bag this
week. The fish were well spread out round the main pond with no particular
hotspots, and the two smaller ponds were also fishing well all round. At the
weekend, most fish were taken on black flies – Ace of Spades, Viva, Cat’s
Whisker – fished 1 to 4 feet below the surface. Buzzers, Diawl Bachs and
Damsels were also contributing to fish being caught. The water is now clearing
nicely, and conditions are looking good for the coming week. The fishery is open
