Lake of Menteith 11th September
Secchi Disk Clarity 2.5m; 6ft Water temperature 15C
Catches have been all over in the last few days, with top tactics booby and nymph on sink tip to slow glass, or dries (daddies). The eastern basin is perhaps out fishing the west at present. The average weight of the fish is currently 2lbs 13oz with some big fish in the catches. Peter Batchelor (Glasgow) and Gary Hamilton (on right) from Lanark had a weigh in of 8 fish for 31lbs 10oz, which included 3 fish for 18lbs 6oz – all on dries.
Bobby Dabblers galore at the Lake last week for the Police International. In all the 64 rods landed 141 fish which weighed 367lbs (an average weight of 2lbs 10oz). The Scots (pictured below) won fairly convincingly with their 16 rods weighing in 44 fish and returning 23. In second place were N.Ireland with 36 fish weighed in and 16 rtd. England were in third place with 44 in total and Wales got the “wooden spoon” for their total catch of 35 fish. The top bag was Jim McBride of Edinburgh with 9 fish (7 on daddies and, 1 on shield bug and 1 on ballon caddis). The top 4 or 5 rods were all fishing dries.
Notable catches: Above middle right; Ian Drummond Glasgow with a fish 7lbs 8oz, above left Gordon Walder and Derek Marklow from Edinburgh with a nice brace. Above right Ossie Smith tries out a new wheel chair which has been crossed with a tank (handy for the bank venues). Fire Service Scotland 12 boats 52 fish 147lbs, SPRA 13 boats 57 fish 161, Edin Breadalbane 8 rods 17 fish 49lbs plus 13rt, Lochinch 6 rods 13 fish for 36lbs. SPPM (Ft. Will) 6 boats 21 trout 55lbs and 23 rtd. Potters Bar (no return), Perth RSND (no return), Caley Liners 5 boats 29 trout 73lbs plus 14rtd, Stanley AC 6 boats 44 trout 122lbs plus 20 rtd, Thack AC 5 boats 20 fish for 52lbs plus 36 rtd, THAC 31 trout 83lbs.
