Lake of Menteith fishing report
Lake of Menteith 13th August
Secchi
Disk Clarity 2.4m 6ft Water temperature 17C
It
is the last night of the Baynes
of Callander/Menteith Boat League
on Wednesday 14th
- and it is very tight at the top. Third placed George Whyte has
decided not to go to Wembley for the Scotland England friendly so it
is all to play for tomorrow night. The fishery will put on a final
night Barbie and refreshments and remember to bring last years
trophies James! Looks like we will bring the boats in at 9.30 as
tonight it was dark at that time.
Last
week of Evening Fishing at the Lake is this Friday which made me
wonder if my wood stack is big enough!!
Post
Heat Wave Bonanza
The
Lake continues to cool down and there has been a fishing bonanza as
the difficult to reach trout move back up in the water. Last week we
had quite a few boats hitting the 50 mark. So far this week the best
reported catches were in the mid thirties and came from the Malling
shore through Gateside Bay and into the rookery.
Tuesday
13th:
Some great bags today with catches per boat again in the mid thirties
for some anglers and some “best ever fishing” reported by some of
our regulars. Loads of breakages so we are now advising
10lb breaking strain to be deployed. The
(at times) northerly wind kept the pens near the rope and there were
quite a few 5-6lb fish in the bags. Colligan and Moran of Dailzel had
23 on buzzers (mainly), Anderson and Jackson (Edin Civil Service)
weighed in 4 for 10lbs and returned another 35 (mainly dries – the
daddy). McCabe and friend reported over 20 fish on mainly buzzers.
David Bell caught them on dries (daddies and humpies) and a cortland
blue line with black booby and red cormorant when the sun came out.
James Louden and son from Stirling had a great night with 11 fish for
the boat. The small silver cormorant hyas also accounted for a lot of
fish today.
Winner of the Scottish
Military Fly Fishing Open was Grant Finlay from Faslane with 13(?)
fish, pictured on right receiving the trophy from H.Henry (last years
champion). Grant was fishing a midge tip line with cormorants and
blobs From Dog Isle to the Portend Burn, moving to a fast glass when
it got bright and finishing with dries (daddies). The 7 competing
boats landed 43 fish for 124lbs and returned a further 32. Full
report next week.
