2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) A few milder afternoons (Wednesday
and Friday to Sunday) with a westerly breeze resulted in large surface movements
of fish, especially in the Bankside Pool. Good numbers of rainbows were taken on
various dry fly patterns and buzzers also produced positive results. The osprey is
now making daily visits to the ponds to show us how to catch fish.
Most of the fish from the Boathouse were around the 5lbs mark this week but a
couple of much larger fish were lost close to the island. Black and green lures,
Yellow Dancer and various Buzzer patterns all took fish. Beadhead nymphs and
Buzzers did the trick on the Burnside but it was somewhat moody with most of the
fish being taken in short spells.
The Bankside Pool offered some superb sport with a total of 36 fish taken and 126
returned over a three day period. Many of these fell to Dries but Nymphs, Buzzers
and small lures also took decent numbers. N. Coupar had four fish for 11lbs 14ozs
and R. Wilson took four for 11lbs.
Woodside Pool (any legal method) had a patchy week but ended with 15 fish being
taken on Sunday for a combined weight of 23lbs 12oz. Green Powerbait maintained
its supremacy and sweetcorn also produced some decent fish. An unusual catch this
week was an Ide estimated at 5lbs; this was in superb condition and was returned
unharmed to the water.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian)
into the record books with Jack Hay from Haddington including specimens of 18lbs
8oz, 15lbs and 9lbs in his 10 fish catch and release bag mostly taken on the Diawl
Bach. Tommy Dickson from Dunbar used a Pheasant Tail Nymph to catch and
release a superbly conditioned brown trout, J Fleming, Elphinstone, had a rainbow
weighing 16lbs 8oz on a Buzzer and David Wilson from Livingston had a brace
weighing 24lbs – best 12lbs 8oz on a Black & Green lure. Martin Williamson from
Tranent had 19 on C+R on a Buzzer, Mike Yorkson, Duns, caught 1 for 12lbs 8oz
on a Black & Green lure, on a second visit Tommy Dickson, Dunbar, had 39 on
C+R including specimens of 14lbs and 15lb 4oz on the Hooligan and Bruce Hunter
from Edinburgh used an Olive Lure to take one at 15lbs 8oz. Paul Abbott from
Newtongrange had a 15lb rainbow on a Green & White Rabbit and on his second trip
of the week Jack Hay from Haddington took a 12lb 8oz rainbow on a Black Rabbit.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) On Saturday the Falcon FFC had a good day taking
53 fish for 132lbs with Jim Colley having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 12 lbs.
There has been an abundance of fly life this week even on the cold windy wet
days.
The fish were being caught just under the surface on Dries, Buzzers and a
variety of lures. Harry Robertson from Perth had 4 fish for 15lbs on a Damsel, Neil
Bruce,
Kilsyth, had a brace weighing 6lbs 8oz on a Black Spider and John Patrick from
Kilsyth used a Black Pennell to take 3 fish for 8lbs 8oz. Jimmy Young from Alloa

Falkirk, 2 fish for 7lbs on a Black & Green Fritz, Stuart Clark,
Yellow Dancer and Hugh Bratchie from Lochgelly used a Damsel to catch 3 fish
weighing 8lbs.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Heavy rain, which coloured the water, and strong winds
meant conditions were quite tough at the start of the week, but things improved as
the week went on and conditions were much better by Friday and the weekend when
the fishing was very good.

front of the island were fishing better than other spots.
