Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 25 March
2013.The following reports is for the week ending Sunday, 24 March 2103.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Considering the recent horrendous weather and the fact
that Frandy Fishery lies high up in the Ochill Hills It will come as no surprise to learn
there is no fishery report for last week. Hopefully things will get back to normal in the
not too distant future.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) it was another very difficult week to
be fly fishing on the east coast with freezing high winds from the east mixed with hail
and snow making for near impossible conditions. Most of the anglers that did brave
the conditions fished the boathouse lochan with some great success Kyle Stewart
did battle on through some horrible weather to land two cracking rainbows of 8lb
10oz followed by one slightly bigger at 9lb 3oz. All the fish coming off Boathouse
have been well above the norm with the average weight being 6lbs 8oz. Intermediate
lines with lures such as the Hot Head Damsel and the big ugly and Humongous have
been the best method. Not much returns from the other fly ponds but Blobs and lures
are still taking. The fish on Bankside are moving out around the lochan but there
are still a lot of fish in the bays. On the Burnside fast intermediates and weighted
lures have done the trick. The Woodside any method pond continues to fish well to
ledgered Power Bait with some fish coming off to small spinners
The average weights from kill tickets are as follows:- Boathouse fish per angler
average 2 with an average weight of 6.5lb, Burnside fish per angler average 1.5 with
an average weight of 1.6lb, Bankside fish per angler average 1.8 with an average
weight of 2.0lb and the Woodside fish per angler average 2 with an average weight
of 1.3lb.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Unfortunately, due to the very inclement weather very
few anglers visited the fishery – not surprising considering the wind chill factor
stayed at around -6 for the best part of the week.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Last week was one of the coldest at Orchill for a while
with the freezing wind chilling everyone to the bone. Not surprisingly there were
only a few anglers brave enough to face the elements but those who did were
well rewarded and these included Ron Lusher from Perth with 3 fish for 12lbs on
Buzzers, Martin Hawkshaw, Irvine, 3 for 7lbs 8oz on an Orange Blob, Robert Kettles,
Perth, 2 for 5lbs on Buzzers and Jim Prentice from Tullibody caught 4 for 9lbs on a
Damsel Nymph. S Johnston from Cumbernauld took 4 fish weighing 11lbs 12oz –
best 5lbs 4oz on an Orange Fritz, and Z Davies from Cumbernauld used a Green &
Yellow lure to catch 4 for 10lbs 4oz – best 5lbs.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) An icy cold east wind, together with sleet and snow
showers brought a very wintery feel to Swanswater this week. This certainly made
anglers think twice about venturing out, but those who did were again rewarded with
good fishing. Many Tigers were landed between the dam wall and the big tree, but
fish, in general, were being caught in most areas, such as the dam, boat jetty, the
channel and on the coldest days the area behind the islands. The fish tended to be
lying deep, with a slow retrieve working best. Lures have been most productive this
week, best patterns include Cutthroat Cat, Yellow Dancer, Pink Fritz, Gold Head
Fritz and the odd fish taken on Diawl Bach.
Frank Turner, Alloa, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a 4lb Tiger, Willie Nyguist, Stirling,
4 for 11lb 8oz including a 5lb 8oz Blue and a light Blue, Danny Doherty, Denny, 4
for 11lb including 4lb 4oz Tiger and George Kochanek, Tullibody, 4 for 10lb 8oz
including a Blue and a Tiger. Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 3 for 10lb 8oz including a 4lb
12oz Tiger, Martin O’Connor, Helensburgh, 3 for 10lbs including 4lb 8oz Rainbow,
Fraser McIntosh, Helensburgh, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 2 Tigers and Craig Ferrier,
Helensburgh, 2 for 8lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow.
