Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 11 March
2013.The following reports is for the week ending Sunday, 10 March 2103.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Due to the extremely cold east wind that persisted for most

of the week with the occasional snow shower coming along as well very few anglers

visited the fishery that lies very high up in the Ochills so unfortunately the report is

bereft of any worthwhile news this week.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Kingennie has witnessed a wide

variety of weather conditions last week ranging from mild with bright sunshine to

blizzards on a biting easterly wind. Not surprisingly the fishing has varied in a similar

fashion! Rain and snowmelt caused cloudy water conditions for the Boathouse Pool

for much of the week resulting in lower catches and generally smaller fish averaging

around 4lbs. Most fell to small lures or nymphs. Buzzers worked well on the

Burnside Pool where Mark Ellis had an excellent 5lbs rainbow and Robert Gibson

had ten fish on the catch and release option. There were fewer anglers fishing the

Woodside (any legal method) this week but green Powerbait still proved to be the

most successful bait. The Bankside Pool reacted well to nymphs and small lures

and other options included Buzzers and Crunchers which John Barr used to good

effect landing six fish (catch and release) the largest being a beautifully conditioned

rainbow estimated at 4lbs.

On Sunday 10 March, Forbes of Kingennie, major sponsor to the Scottish

Youth Fly Fishing played host to the squad, their coaches and some parents who

braved blizzard conditions on the Bankside. A mixture of good humour and fierce

determination combined to produce around 40 fish all of which were released. Many

made the long journey in appalling conditions but remained very positive, bringing an

enjoyable atmosphere to the proceedings.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Despite the appalling weather there were some very

good catches last week especially to the catch and release anglers. On one visit

Steve Rogers from Edinburgh had 4 for 10oz plus 10 returned and on another had

10 all to the Mini Cat. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 6 on the Black Fritz, Paul

Kennedy, Haddington, took 3 for 8lbs and returned a further 12 on a Bloodworm,

Chick Donnelly, Paisley, 11 on a Rabbit and J McGhee, Paisley, took 3 for 10lbs

and returned 11 all to the Bloodworm. Neil Keillor from Dunbar had 12 on Buzzers,

Tommy Dickson, Dunbar, 11 including one at 11lbs 4oz on a Blue Buzzer and Peter

Craig from Dunbar had 11 on catch and release.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was a very mixed week of weather again with it turning

a lot colder since Wednesday but as usual there have been a few anglers brave

enough to brave the elements. On Sunday the Goth Fly Fishing Club had a very cold

day with the wind and rain from the east but they managed to catch 44 fish for 99lbs

12oz with D McMutchie taking the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 11lbs 4oz. Also

doing well was B McIntosh from Falkirk who had 3 fish for 12lbs on a Kate McLaren,

Jim Cook, Falkirk, 2 for 6lbs on a Bloodworm, Bobby Robertson, Falkirk, 2 for 4lbs

8oz on a Bloodworm and A Brownlie from Falkirk used a Black Rabbit to bag a

brace weighing 4lbs 8oz. R Wilson from Falkirk took 3 for 8lbs on a Black Lure,

Eaddie McGowan, Helensburgh, 1 fish for 4lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Keith Hunter,

Tullibody, 3 fish for 9lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach and Eddie McEwon from Kirkintilloch

caught 3 fish for 9lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach. D & L Mitchell from Edinburgh shared

a basket of 6 fish for 15lbs – all taken on the Green & Black Fritz, Ron Lusher,

Perth, 2 fish for 4lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach and Jim Kelly from Airdrie caught a couple

weighing 8lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The return to bitterly cold winds and snow showers at

the weekend deterred many anglers from fishing.

out were well rewarded, particularly on Saturday.

conditions and are being landed all round Swanswater including several in the 3lb

to 4lb range. The Millpond was also fishing very well this week with several anglers

enjoying good sport on catch and release after their limits from Swanswater, in

addition to those taking fish from the small ponds.

Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Cut-throat Cat, Nomad and Damsel being the favourites,

although a few anglers were having success with Diawl Bach, Bloodworm and

Buzzers. Water clarity is superb at present and the temperature is around 2o to 3o

so the fish are mostly sitting fairly deep down. However one angler reported seeing

a lot of fish moving around 3 feet down just off the dam, although catching them was

another matter!

However those who did venture

The Tigers appear to like these

Most fish were taken on lures,

Those doing well this week included Alan Armstrong, Tillicoultry, 3 for 11lb including

6lb 6oz Rainbow and a Blue, Kenny Turnbull, Fort William, 6 for 15lb 8oz including 2

Tigers, George Kochanek, Tullibody, in two visits, 5 for 14lb 12oz including 2 Tigers,

bigger one at 4lb and Steven Grant, Wishaw, 4 for 13lb 4oz including 2 Tigers at 3lb

10oz and 3lb 8oz from Swanswater plus 7 returned on the small ponds. Lawrence

McGuire, Maddiston, 4 for 12lb 4oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue, Danny

Abraham, Wishaw, 4 for 12lb 1oz including 2 Tigers at 3lb 6oz and 3lb, Danny

Doherty, Denny, 4 for 11lb 4oz including a Tiger and Alan Grant, Wishaw, 4 for 11lb.

Frank Barr, Falkirk, 2 Blues for 6lb 8oz, bigger one at 4lb 8oz and Ian Dunsmore,

Wishaw, 4lb 6oz Tiger.
