Lake of Menteith fishing report
Lake of Menteith 11th
October 2011
6ft Water Temp – 11.5C, Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.1m
DUE TO THE RECENT OUTBREAK OF
FRESHWATER LICE, ANGLERS WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED TO BRING
DROGUES AND BASS BAGS TO THE LAKE. WE NOW HAVE SUFFICIENT
DROGUES FOR ALL AND PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE PROVIDED. Please exercise
caution, common sense and good disinfection procedures with regards to boots and any other
piece of equipment as we wish to keep the Lake lice free.
The Lake has fished well in the past week, with some fantastic blues in the catches. Not too
sure exactly what the best tactics have been but the fish have been keen on the “popped booby”,
according to one report. The best areas reported recently are the eastern drifts; including the
Rookery and Hotel Bay. The remaining stocking for the week goes in tomorrow. The total
stocking for the week will be around 600.
September Catch Stats
Fish weight caught per boat broke the recently established August record. In September the 2-man
8hr boat catch was 6 fish for 16lbs 10oz. The mean weight was 2lbs 12oz. The number of fish
caught and released was 37.6%.
Notable Catches
Strathclyde Police 10 boats 78 fish 179lbs plus 17
returned, SSEB 10 boats 37 fish for 99lbs, CIBA AC 5
boats 24 fish for 67lbs, Pentland 6.5 boats 46 fish 128
fish, Falkirk Fly Dressers 5 boats 43 fish for 112lbs
plus 10 returned, Luggiebank 6 boats 28 fish 87lbs,
Heriot AC 9 boats 16 fish 44lbs plus 23 returned,
Falkirk Municipal 8 boats 27 fish 72lbs, Lothian and
Borders Police 12 boats 50 fish 136lbs plus 17
returned.
A blue photographed by Colin Riach during Heriot’s
recent outing at the Lake. I assume you don’t mind the
theft of this photo from your report Colin (if you are
reading this), but I left it to late to email, will try and
make it up to you!
