Water Temperature – 21C, Clarity (Secchi disc)2.9m.
It’s been a hot week with bright blue skies and not much wind and it has pushed the fish into the
deeper waters of the Rookery and in Cage bay. This week its been a case of putting a Di5 or Di7
throw it out count to 30 and do a slow retrieve, fly’s that are doing well include Diawl bachs,
corral booby’s, fab`s cormorants and snatchers.
Youth international
This week the Lake held the 27th Youth International Fly Fishing Competition. The youths had
to suffer blistering hot days but they managed to catch 189 fish with Scotland winning by an
impressive 20 fish. Top rod was England’s Oliver Avis with 8 fish. Top Scottish rod was Calum
Stephen also with 8 fish.

On Thursday Lewis
Rumble from Llanelli in Wales was having a relaxing evening
after the International when he caught a beautiful 8lb 7oz Gold
trout which has been in the lake for at least 2 years. He caught it
on a sparkler fishing a Di5.
Scottish Club Championships
On Saturday night 45 anglers landing 70fish for 191lbs. Top team were Loanhead & Dist (left, l to
r; Derek Marklow Willie Smith and Gus Armour) they had 11fish for 29lb 10oz. 2nd Middleton FF
with 10 fish for 27lb 11 oz, 3rd were Largs & Dist with 9 fish for 24lb 6oz . They will fish in the
second semi on the 23rd of September.
Top rod of the night was Willie Smith
(loanhead & dist) his 5 fish weighed 14lb
he caught his fish up at the Malling shore
and in cage bay on dries, joining him in
the champion of champions are Tam White
(middleton FF), Alex Frew (Largs & Dist),
Morris Dixon (Largs & Dist) and Alastair
McGillivray (SPPM). The competition is
sponsored by Famous Grouse Whisky and
the Stirling Angling Centre.
In the Menteith ACS Boat League on Wednesday, Anglers opted to fish to total catch and release
rules with tied places being decided on the time of the first fish caught. Anglers were free to fish
to the bag limit for their own needs. On a hard night Mark Stevens was top rod. With the top 9
nights making up the scores Brian McKenzie now leads the league by 1 point from James Fairly.
SANA Open Final
Scottish youth manager Arthur Wilkie and youth coach Andy Boylan get there hands on their
own silverware this week with winning the SANA
open doubles with 11 fish, 2nd was Tommy Graham
&Steve Corsar and 3rd were Douglas Fairbairn &
Alistair McGillivray. Alistair also won the singles
with 8 fish, second was Andy Boylan with 7 fish
and 3rd was Jim Watson. Big thanks to Fraser
Renwick for running a successful comp.
