ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The Strathcarron Hospice Charity Day was held on Sunday and this on-going fundraiser has raised no less than £3,256 throughout the year which is brilliant consider that the fishery was closed for three and a half months due to the bad weather. This money has been raised thanks to the generosity of the fly and coarse anglers and a big thank you also goes to Margaret Wilson who makes the tablet which made £672. This year everyone missed Rab Mitchell, who sadly passed away last year, but will always be remembered as this day was started in his wife's memory. to be the fish of the day.
On Thursday, William Smith from Menstrie was delighted to catch a 9lb 12oz specimen in his catch if 3 fish weighing 14lbs 8oz and it took him 20 minutes to bring to the net. 7. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) The match on Sunday was again fished in very windy and showery conditions so everyone is hoping that next week-end it is a nice warm sunny day for a change. The match was one by Mark Cook with 36lbs 11oz, Tony Ball came second with 23lbs 11oz, Barry Morgan was third with 21lbs 6oz and fourth place went to Rab Edwards with 19lbs 140z. Also doing well was Jim Jones with 17lbs 3oz, David Mathews, 16lbs, Nigel Foulds 14lbs 2oz and Craig Postlewaite 12lbs 10oz.
8. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The stormy weather may have deterred some anglers this week but those who did brave the elements were well rewarded. Despite the gale force winds, which uprooted a number of trees around the fishery, and the heavy rain showers, plenty of fish were being caught in all three ponds. When conditions got too severe on Swanswater the more sheltered small ponds provided excellent sport and excellent returns. Most of the week the fish were around 3 to 4 feet deep, sheltering from the wind, and taking a variety of small lures and nymphs. On the small ponds they were nearer the surface, especially during the quieter spells and were being tempted by wet flies, buzzers and bloodworm.
Frank Turner, Cumbernauld, took the biggest fish this week with a 7lb 10oz Rainbow in his 4 for 17lb 10oz which also included a Blue. Jim Craig, Alexandria, had 2 for 9lb 4oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and a Brown, Steve Lynn, Stirling, 4 for 15lb 4oz including 7lb 3oz Gold, Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 5 for 16lb and Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 15lb including 2 Blues.
