ANGLING PRESS SERVICES


Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 10 March 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 09 March 2014.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) It was an excellent opening week at the fishery with Bill Ramage from Tillicoultry keeping 3 fish weighing 8lb and releasing a further 10, Mr Calzetta, Tullibody kept 5 fish weighing 12lb and released 10, Bobby Paterson, Stirling, 2 fish for 6lb and released 4, Neil Reid, Cheshire, 3 fish weighing 6lb and Tony Birchall from Cheshire had 3 fish weighing 6lb and released 1.  Jimmy Millar from Alva 2 weighing 6lb and released 12, Alan Bernard & Kenny Baird, Tillicoultry, kept 6 fish weighing 12lb 8oz, Peter Board, Cambridge, 5 fish weighing 10lb 4oz and William McGranaghan & Drew Bryce from Newmains caught and released 8. Raymond Pirrie from Tullibody caught and released 14, Gary Bryant, Denny, 3 fish for 5lb 8oz and released 2 and James Graham, Oakley, kept 4 fish weighing 8lb 8oz and released 4. Fred Padden from Falkirk caught and released 5, Alastair Golding, Linlithgow caught and released 8 and Mark Paterson from Stirling kept 2 fish weighing 4lb 8oz and released 11.
He best flies last week proved to be the Olive Fritz Damsel, Bloodworm, Coral Dancer, Ace of Spades, Black Zonker and the Nomad whilst the best fishing spot was on the south shore from the start of dogleg to the dam wall.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK 

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) The catch and release anglers did well last week with Eddie Peden from Tranent taking 7 on a Black & Silver Buzzer, Donald Campbell, Musselburgh, 7 on a White Rabbit,  Haxton, Edinburgh, 6 on an Okey Dokey and Andy Croy from Linlithgow managed 6 on a Rabbitiser. Jacky Hay from Haddington had 3 including an 8lb brown trout on a Diawl Bach, David Savage, Edinburgh, 6 on a Black & Green Buzzer, Bruce Hunter, Edinburgh, 5 on Buzzers and the Gilmerton Miners AC had a good outing taking 24 fish for 58lbs.

4. MORTON (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK 

5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The Goth FFC from Fallin had a good outing on Saturday when they caught 52 fish for 106lbs with Frank Tortolano taking the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 9lbs 6 oz.   Black was the best overall colour for flies and lures but the Damsel, Yellow Dancer, Cat and Buzzers also did well.
I Taylor from Tullibody took n3 fish for 8lbs on a Green Nomad, Veronica Lusher,     Perth, 3 for 7lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach, Ronnie Stanovich, Glasgow, 3 for 8lbs on a Kate McLaren and Stuart Godfrey from Scone used a Cat’s Whisker to bag 3 fish weighing 8lbs 8oz. Johnny Weir from Airdrie caught 3 for 7lbs 8oz on a Minkie, Jim Kelly, Airdrie, 4 for 11lbs on a Minkie, Mark Fletcher, Derby, had a brae weighing 4lbs 4oz on a Black Fritz and Bryon Martin from Clackmannan put 3 fish for 8lbs in the basket using an Orange Buzzer.

6. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Although it was another wet week, with over an inch of rain on Thursday night, the sun is shining today (Monday) and there are definite signs that spring is coming!   For most of the week the fishing was good although things were a bit tougher on Friday when the water was a bit coloured after the overnight rain.   The fish were generally in the top 3 feet of the water and well spread out round the pond with the Island and the Far Bay being hotspots at certain times.   Buzzer, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Ally McCoist, Cormorant and Bloodworm were the favourite patterns, with some wet flies such as Black Pennell and Alexandra also taking fish.   The small ponds fished very well this week and several anglers had a lot of sport both taking and returning fish, including a couple of youngsters on days out with their dads. The Fishery is now open 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm.
Adam Wywial, Grangemouth, 2 for 7lb from the Millpond including 5lb Tiger and Steven Mullin and young son, Liam, Pitlochry, shared 5 for 15lb with Steven getting 2 for 6lb 4oz from Swanswater and Liam taking 3 for 8lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond including 3lb 12oz Rainbow. Archie McClymont, Glasgow, 5 for 13lb 12oz including 2 Blues, Shane Wallace, Helensburgh, 7 for 16lb 8oz including 4 from the small ponds, Campbell Cooper, Carluke, 4 for 12lb 8oz including 2 Blues and Gordon Ferguson, Coatbridge, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a Blue. David Alexander and son, James, Currie, shared 3 for 9lb 4oz including a Blue and 2 from the small ponds, John O’Hara, Shotts, 3 for 8lb, Stuart Campbell, Dumbarton, 2 for 6lb 12oz and Bob Crighton, Connecticut, 2 for 6lb 8oz including a Blue. Alan Laing, Carluke, 2 Blues for 6lb 8oz,Darren Hill, Cambus, 8 caught and released 2 and J Paterson, Roslin, caught and released 8.

7. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) On the fly fishing front Brian Davidson from Stirling had a cracking bag of 3 fish weighing 9lbs 2oz including a cracking blue trout that tipped the scales at 6lbs 7oz. Mr Millar from Airdrie took 9 on catch & release, Mick Ferrie from Glasgow 4 for  13lb including a tagged fish that earned him £50. Mr Currie from Glasgow took 3 for 8lbs and Mr Reid from Clydebank bagged 3 for 15lb with the largest coming in at 7lbs 11oz. The best flies used last week were the Black Woolly Bugger, Cat’s Whisker and the Green & Black Fritz.
On the bait front lan Cuzen & Alex O'Rourke from Drumchapel shared 10 for 23lbs, Mr Jovaslow from Glasgow 2 for 6lb, Steven Young had a brace weighing 4lbs 3oz and Paul Sykes from Glasgow 3 for 8lbs 2oz and returned a tiger trout of 2lbs 5oz.Stuart Sykes from Glasgow caught 3 for 6lbs 3oz and Mr McCaughey from Glasgow had 4 for 8lbs 6oz and returned a tremendous brown trout that weighed in at an incredible 12lbs.
